The main star of this page will be the ankylosaurus, because it is my favorite!
The ankylosaurus was a mighty dinosaur, who was also very cute. There is only one known species of ankylosaurus, endearingly called, Ankylosaurus magniventris. Although, this is the only species we currently have, there have been multiple other armour related dinosaurs found. It is well known that the armour of this dinosaur, to protect it from predators, was it's "shell" and tail. The back of the ankylosaurus was formed from the leathery skin which had hundreds of bony plates embedded into it. The tail of the dinosaur was made up of heavy bone growth. Additional armour that this reptile had was four spikes on it's head.
There is a common misconeption that the ankylosaurus was small. This is, in fact, false, becuase it grew up to ten meteres long and could weught up to four tons. This is a lot!
This majestic creature lived in the late cretacious period in North America. Futhermore, the diet of this smlow moving creature strictly consisted of plants since it was an herbivore.
Finally, the name for the ankylosaur was derived from ancient Greek and means "stiffend lizard".
